Recently suffered a torn left pectoral muscle while attempting a 556-pound bench press. Bjornsson was attempting the lift during a powerlifting competition in Iceland on April 16, 2023, when the injury occurred.

Later, Bjornsson posted a video in which he visited his doctor and had a chest ring that confirmed a tear in his chest muscle, Bjornsson himself looks quite positive. The doctor said that he will need an operation, which will take about 12 weeks to recover from. On April 24th, Hafthor is flying to Los Angeles to have the surgery, which is scheduled for April 26th. And he said he'll keep us informed.
